Adult Study Groups

We have a number of adult Sunday School classes and small group studies that meet during the school year.  Groups for men, women, and mixed groups meet at various times throughout the week. With the exception of the Men's Breakfast Group, our groups and classes are taking a summer break and will resume in September.  Contact the church office for details.

The Bible Project: How to Read the Bible  The Bible is an ancient Jewish collection of sacred literature made up of many different literary styles. Each biblical book uses, to a varying degree, a combination of all the literary styles to make its unique contribution to the story of the Bible.  The How to Read the Bible series walks through each literary style found in the Bible, and how each uniquely contributes to the overall whole. While the Bible is one unified story, it cannot all be read in the same way, as each literary style lives by its own rules and structure; this we will explore in detail in each video/discussion.  Each session stands alone, so feel free to drop in as you are able. Contact the church office for more information, or visit one of our small group studies:

• Parents' Group - Sundays at 9:15 a.m. in Room 33
• After Supper Group - Wednesdays following Supper Fellowship, about 6:45 p.m. in Room 35

The Bible Project: Bible Themes  A Bible study video/discussion based on various themes found in the Bible, such as "The Image of God," "The Messiah," "Holy Spirit," "Heaven and Earth," "Gospel of the Kingdom" and many other themes.  Each session stands alone, so feel free to drop in as you are able. Contact the church office for more information about the following groups or any additional groups that may be forming.

• Sunday School Group - Sundays at 9:15 a.m. in Room 35
• Women's Campus Group - Tuesdays at 12 p.m. at the UI Campus Christian Center, 822 Elm St. across from Hello Walk
• Women's Group - Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. in the church library
• Men's Group - Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in Room 35
• Open Campus Group - Thursdays at 11 a.m. at the UI Campus Christian Center

The Wired Word is designed for all those who wish to grow in their faith by applying Scripture to the current events in our world.  Each Thursday, a new lesson, drawn from that week's headlines, is sent via e-mail to class members.  In class, we discuss how God's Word can inform and help us see with new eyes what is going on in our world each week and how faith matters. The class meets Sunday at 9:15 a.m. in the church library during the school year.

Going Deeper into Pastor Norman’s Sermon Series On Sunday after coffee fellowship. Pastor Norman will offer an opportunity for further discussion of and reflection on the theme of that morning’s sermon, addressing our thoughts and reactions to these themes. Everyone is invited to join the discussion in the church library following coffee fellowship.

College Group  meets on Friday evenings for dinner and conversation during the academic year at the UI Campus Christian Center. All undergrad and grad students are invited. Contact the church office for details.

Women's Prayer Group and Bible Study  All women are invited to gather for prayer and conversation on Wednesdays during the school year at 12 p.m. at The Center (the Campus Christian Center at the corner of Elm Street and University Ave on the UI campus). This fall we will be discussing Bible Themes from The Bible Project (see above).

Men's Breakfast Group meets every Thursday year-around for study and fellowship at 6:30 a.m. at Shari's Restaurant .  All men welcome.

Carol Renfrew Circle meets at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel Room on the fourth Thursday of each month (September through May)  for fellowship and Bible study. All women are welcome.
